Literature Text

On luscious green grass only a few miles from a mountain lays a magnificent garden. Then the TARDIS lands, it immediately forms into one of the grass-like items among the garden. Out steps Artist Blue, who immediately takes a deep breath. “I love it when the air’s fresh.” He exclaims cheerfully.

Behind him steps out his partner, still dressed in her favorite blue sweater. “It looks like Tim Burton threw up on a garden.” She utters almost sourly.

“I don’t get your cultural references, Catherine. Remember that,” he says before being approached by a white humanoid robot.

“Halt,” the machine says in neutrality. “You are trespassing on state property.”

“Ooh. I love robots,” Artist gleefully exclaims. The robot’s hand projects a tiny weapon. “But I hate guns.”

“Identify yourselves or be apprehended. Force will be used.”

Artist sighs disdainfully. “Neither her nor I possess any adequate identification.” A shot is fired and Artist is knocked unconscious.

As the Timelord awakens, he hears a woman’s voice speaking to another person. “Really? Could the legends actually contain truth? I was told that they were all sent to battle.” Artist lets out a groan, which gains this woman’s attention. “Hello, Timelord. I am Mithil Barder, the governor of Shill. That’s a state on the planet Shallana.” A long pause overdraws them as Artist slowly climbs to his feet. He finds himself in a holographic barred cell. “Can you understand me?”

“Yeah, yeah. Where’s Catherine?”

“She’s in the next room.”

“So you know I’m a Timelord then?”

The governor straightens her back to appear more official. “I’m aware of your race, yes.”

“How much do you know?”

“Only simple folk legends.”

“You’ll have to be more specific.” Artist says rudely.

“Such attitude.”

“I’m just a little upset that your robot shot me. I hardly think it was necessary.”

“The security for this mansion is the same for everyone regardless of uniqueness.”

Artist slowly approaches the end of his cell. “Either way I’d like you to release me.”

“Absolutely.”

The sudden release of Artist catches him by surprise. If he was in a similar situation on most other planets he would surely remain there for quite some time. “What did you say your name was again?” he asks.

“Governor Mithil Barder.”

Artist looks at the woman meaningfully in short solemn silence. “I’m sorry.”

“I do beg your pardon?”

“I apologize for my rude behavior. Now I must ask something of you.”

“Yes?” asks Barder curiously.

“Do you swear to me that my assistant is safe, and will remain safe?”

“Absolutely,” she replies firmly.

Without continued banter Artist leaves the room, the governor follows. They eventually reach the garden. “K-9, door,” exclaims the Timelord. The door unlocks and both step inside.

K-9 shouts in a worried tone. “Intruder!”

“She’s with me.”

“Apologies, master.”

Artist reaches the console and looks at Barder with a faulty smile. “So tell me. What would you like to see most in the entire universe?”

The governor stands flabbergasted. “You’ve got to be joking.” Artist continues his smile and look of intrigue. “How about your home planet?”

Artist tilts his head from one angle to the next in disagreement. “If you really want. But there are some pretty stellar things out there that you could see.”

“Then how about… Hmm…" She considers her options. "How about the first planet formed?”

Artist’s smile somehow grows to be twice as large. “Baby,” he says to his ship. “Find the first planet and display the universal co-ordinates.” The TARDIS does as it is asked and Artist reacts accordingly. “I think we’re both in for a real treat,” he says before the ship lands.

The governor is first to step out, she sees the tall mushrooms around her, the beautiful ground, and off in the distance is a giant mountain which has the words ‘hello sweetie’ written on the opposing side. “This is amazing!” says Barder.

“It’s definitely that.”

“It’s incredible!”

“That it is,” says Artist before being unexpectedly hugged by her. After a moment of pause, he reciprocates.

“Thank you,” says the governor in tears of joy.

“You’re very welcome.” They then enjoy the sights and converse upon many subjects for nearly an hour.

Mithil sits on the ground looking at the mountain alongside the Timelord. “So whenever you die you just form a new body?”

Artist nods. “That’s right.”

“How many times can you do that?”

“Twelve, giving me thirteen lives in total. But sometimes you can be given or even steal other people’s lives. But the council would never allow it.”

“So you can die twelve times?” asks Barder in curiosity.

“Only eleven now,” says Artist looking down at the grassy ground.

“What happened?”

“I was shot by a member of an alien race called the Daleks. Next thing I knew I landed on another planet a few meters from Catherine and I wound up bringing her with me.”

The governor gives a tiny smile. “She’s a lucky woman.” Artist gazes into the distance, not at anything in particular, just the essences. “And very beautiful.” Mithil adds. A look of mild surprise overcomes the Gallifreyan. “Why did you really bring her along, Artist?”

“She was dying, so I promised I’d take her with me if she lived. I never go back on a promise.”

“That’s the only reason?”

A short pause. “Yes.”

“Do you promise?”

An even longer silence overcomes them. Artist stands and looks towards the TARDIS door. “Are you ready to go back home?”

“Perhaps I should. My guards are probably concerned,” says Mithil Barder as she enters the ship.

“Actually we’ll arrive around the same time we left,” says the Timelord as he inputs the co-ordinates.

“Artist, is there a specific reason you let me take this trip with you?”

“Yes.” Artist stares her in the eyes, seriousness dripping from his very soul. “I want you to promise me something Ms. Barder. Do something to make the people remember you, and do it soon.”

Catherine sits in her cell, and she once again hears footsteps. The door opens, there stands Artist Blue still dressed in his jean jacket and red shirt. He simply exclaims “Hi.”

“Oh, hi.”

“Are you ready to go?”

“Are you serious? That easily?”

Artist straightens his jacket. “The governor and I sorted things out.”

“Then yeah, let’s go.” Catherine and the Timelord begin to leave, Artist only stops for a moment to give Mithil a very meaningful nod. “So where now?”

“I don’t know,” says Artist as they enter the garden. “I feel like an adventure.”

“Oh, who was that by the way?”

“Governor Barder. She served the state for only six months.”

“Why only six?”

Artist stops in his tracks. “Because one day a man had a gun.”
I hope you all enjoyed this story, I felt it had more development than the others.
